Rules/Application

| THE PREMISE Have you ever dreamed you were someone else and it was so vivid that, for a moment, you were convinced you were that person. It couldn't be, of course. That person isn't even real and dreams are just dreams, right? Or, maybe not. A series of people, all around the world, are experiencing that very thing and, as it turns out, there's much more to it than it being just a dream. Those people are all reincarnations of fictional characters - imaginary people from literature, mythology, nursery rhymes, fairy tales, etc. They don't have conscious memories of their past lives, but, boy, do they dream about them. Some of them even have special abilities related to their former selves. The dreams can be good or bad, but the one thing they all are is vivid. Those affected might feel like they're going crazy at first, at least until they begin to discover that there are more people like them, that these aren't just random, recurring dreams. BASIC RULES Standard RP etiquette applies. No godmodding, no puppeting another character without the players permission, etc. If you are in a thread with multiple players, please observe posting order and don't skip over any of those players without permission. While it can be frustrating to wait for people with differing schedules in a large thread and make things take a long time to play out, it's just not fair to those players to skip over their turn without them telling you it's okay to do so. Once Upon A Dream is a community and we encourage you to play with everyone. We want every, single member to feel welcome here and that is not going to happen if we are a community filled with cliques. Please avoid cliquey behavior. IC and OOC. Keep them separate. As a player, you will know things that your character doesn't. Keep this in mind and don't cross that line when roleplaying. Also remember that IC drama should not be taken personally. IC drama is a good thing. OOC is not and will not be tolerated. This will serve as your only warning. If we find that you are creating drama OOCly in the game, we will remove you. HAVE FUN! Seriously, guys. Remember that this is a game and it's meant to be entertaining. We're all here to write and play and have fun, so try to keep that in mind. If something is going on that is preventing you from having fun, we're always available to do what we can to make things fun again.YOUR CHARACTER Please stick to reincarnations that can be referenced through original written work. Characters from movies and television would be acceptable if that show or movie was based on a previously written book, but we will not be accepting characters that originated onscreen. The exception to this is Harry Potter. There are plenty of HP games out there to choose from, so we're not allowing characters from that universe at this time. We'd also prefer to stick with characters from works that are 10 or more years old. Nothing written in the past few years, please! Characters must reside in one of the main cities of the game - currently New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago. Your character may travel and doesn't have to always be in those cities, but their primary residence must be in one of those places and please keep in mind that those cities will be where most of the action will be taking place. There is no limit on how many characters one player may have. However, you will be required to keep all of your characters active and play them fairly equally. If we see some characters being ignored at the expense of others, we reserve the right to request you drop some to ensure you are able to play them all equally. One in every five characters a player has must be male. This is to ensure there is a good, realistic ratio of male vs female characters in game. If your character's reincarnation has been portrayed on film/television, you may not use the same PB who portrayed them. Also keep in mind that your character does not have to have the same personality or history as their reincarnation. Their reincarnation is a past life and the only requirement tying that to who they are now is the dreams they should be having of that past life. Characters may be dropped at any time; however, due to the impact on other players, if you do drop one or more characters, you will have to wait one month per dropped character before you will be able to app a new one. This is to discourage players from dropping characters lightly or from constantly dropping characters only to apply for new ones. Please keep in mind that while we will happily allow you to bring back a previously dropped character, you may only do this once. We don't want a yo-yo affect of the same character constantly being dropped and re-apped, either. Also, keep in mind that depending on how that character's departure was plotted out, we may require you to wait to ensure a realistic reintroduction to the community.ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS Each character must post 100 words or more in their character journal OR be active in a thread or log every month. Activity checks will be done on the first of every month and warnings will be issued for any characters who do not conform to these requirements. The 100 words do not have to be all in one post and the thread does not have to be a NEW thread (we understand that some people play more slowly than others), but we do expect to see activity in the form of 100 words worth of journal updates or activity in a thread or log each month. Upon receiving a warning for inactivity, you will be required to post a thread or log for the character receiving the warning or a journal update of 100 words or more within two weeks. If, after two weeks, we do not see activity for that character, he or she will be removed from the game. Additionally, if you receive a second warning for the same character within a three month period, that character will be removed from the game. Any player who has received a warning for any of their characters in the prior 3 months will not be able to apply for additional characters. While we do not have a limit, we also do not feel that anyone who has challenges keeping up with activity for their current characters should further exacerbate that by adding more to their roster. Hiatuses may be granted to players who are temporarily unable to meet activity requirements due to real life circumstances (ie, moving, illness, schoolwork, etc.). Hiatuses that cover more than one month will need to be specially approved by the mods and your hiatus must last for at least half of the month in order to exempt you from activity for that month. Partial hiatuses will not be granted for any reason. We don't mind if you finish up old threads once you announce a hiatus and we may be flexible if we only see a few new things started during a hiatus, but if we see you keeping up what we consider a normal level of activity during a hiatus, we reserve the right to pull you off of said hiatus and subject you to regular activity checks. Additionally, we will not be approving new applications for a player while they are on hiatus. You may submit an app, but if you are on hiatus, it will be placed on hold until you return from your hiatus.GAME PLAY GUIDELINES The game moves in real time. However, future and past threads/logs/narratives are not only welcomed but encouraged. In fact, we have a sub-community specifically for future threads, whether they are canon or AU, at Every post made in Who: Tag all of your posts. When your character is approved, a tag is created for that character. Please tag your posts with the appropriate character and player names. Please put the date and time on all journal entires in the subject line. (Example: January 4, 2008 - 3:37PM EST) Our characters are spread throughout the United States and London. When one character posts in the morning, it may already be afternoon in other timezones. Having each post dated will minimize confusion You can see an example of how this is done HERE.Also, comments to journal entries are assumed to be meant for shortly after the entry is posted. If your character isn't commenting right away ICly, please make a note of that somewhere in your reply (via an OOC comment). Journal entires can be locked so that only a few people can read them. They can be locked so that they are completely private or you can blocked them from a few individuals. Or, you can mix all of these things into one post. You can see an example of how this is done HERE. Please follow a similar format when doing so.THE APPLICATION Want to apply?
